At Battle Creek Public Schools, transformation is underway and excellence is on the rise.
About Us
Great things are happening in Battle Creek Public Schools, and excellence is on the rise! Starting in 2017, we asked our community to Believe in the Change as we focused on improving the educational opportunities available to the children of Battle Creek through the support of a historic $51 million dollar grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF). Since that time, we've added innovative learning options like a STEM-focused middle school and an international baccalaureate elementary school, tripled kindergarten readiness, added dozens of community partnerships to bridge gaps and expand opportunities for students, improved family engagement, and passed a community bond measure to continue transforming our middle school experience. But the best was yet to come.
In May of 2023, we had the incredible pleasure of announcing the Bearcat Advantage, a college scholarship exclusively available to Battle Creek Public Schools (BCPS) graduates that covers up to 100% of tuition and mandatory fees at four-year universities or colleges in Michigan or one of nearly 100 eligible Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs) across the U.S. And that wasn't all!
We know that our teachers are the heart and soul of the district, and everything that we do for our students begins with teachers. That's why, within days of announcing the Bearcat Advantage, we were thrilled to also announce an average teacher pay increase of more than $10,000, positioning us as one of the best-paying districts for teachers in Southwest Michigan.
After asking our community to Believe in the Change, we are excited to now be at a place where we are perfectly positioned for success, and we're ready to show the community what success looks like. Thank you, Battle Creek community, for your continued partnership in support of our students' career, college, and community success!
