Don’t Let Your Student Fall Behind: Every Day Counts!
Each school day brings with it a chance to learn something new, gain new experiences, and make new memories with friends. The path to success starts by being here today, because Every Day Counts!
Why is attendance important for BCPS students?
Good attendance is a proven ingredient for success. Students with strong attendance records are more likely to read at or above their grade levels, graduate from high school, and develop important social skills.
Each day brings new opportunities and adventures. Field trips, fun projects, school assemblies, surprise guest speakers, and treats for a classmate’s birthday celebration are just some of the lifelong memories and one-of-a-kind experiences your student may miss out on by not being in school regularly.
- Showing up ensures your student doesn’t fall behind. Each school year includes 180 days, and our teachers put a lot of care into developing lesson plans that maximize learning to fit this schedule. So when students miss school, they miss out on key lessons every day and can quickly fall behind.
Spread the word to students that every day counts!
We want everyone to know that every day counts. Students shouldn’t just hear about how important school is from their teachers — we need families and the entire community to help us share this message.
Want to help? Here’s how you can get involved:
- Start a conversation with your friends and family about the importance of attending school. If you or your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or church group members have kids, ask them about school!
- If you know someone having issues getting to school, let them know they should contact a teacher or administrator at BCPS. We are here to help!

BCPS is Here to Help
Each of our schools include staff dedicated to your student's physical, social-emotional, and mental health. The most important thing that students who are struggling can do is show up to school, and then reach out to a teacher, principal, or Communities in Schools (CIS) Site Coordinator for support.
If there is anything making it difficult for your student to get to school, we are here to help! Contact your school for help finding support.
