As one of the school's project-based learning (PBL) projects, students in the Business, Engineering, and Industrial Technology pathway at Battle Creek Central High School Career Academies were recently paid a visit by marketing and design pros from local agency SGK. Students in Mr. Kay's and Ms. Worden's junior English classes have been working on a project in which they are working to create public service announcement campaigns around different mental health topics. The guests from SGK stopped by to provide an in-depth look at how marketing professionals use skills like audience research, brain mapping, and storyboarding to build out print, video, and social media campaigns.
Junior Jatavion Caldwell and his group were in the early stages of working on a campaign to build awareness about schizophrenia. "Our goal is to help people learn about this mental illness so they can recognize it, understand what it really is, and learn how to be supportive if you encounter someone who may have it," he said.
SGK Graphic Designer Jaylynn Mittig enjoyed her time getting to work with our Bearcats and shared, "It's great getting to get into the schools to show future generations of business and marketing professionals what their work could look like after they graduate. Today, we covered the beginning stages of planning for a campaign, so it will be exciting to see what their final projects end up looking like."
SGK is one of dozens of Community Partners who support BCCHS Career Academies students by providing presentations, job shadows, mock interviews, and more throughout their high school careers. Read more about the Career Academies here.
