Mar 18, 2020 | District
Superintendent Carter and Board President Karen Evans were all smiles during the March 18, 2020 board meeting following the approval of pay for contracted and hourly employees during the mandated closure.
Dear BCPS Community,
Since the governor’s announcement of mandated statewide school closures, district leaders have been hard at work to do everything we can to help our community overcome any hardships this may present.
Along with handing out meal packets to families, we pleased to announce that following approval at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting, we are also making arrangements to help reduce the financial burden of this closure on the district’s contract and hourly employees.
BCPS appreciates the work and commitment of all its staff and recognizes the hardship of an unexpected and extended closure, so we are making arrangements for contract employees and hourly district employees to receive pay during this time.
Third-party contracted and hourly employees will be paid for their average hours worked per pay period this year, for the duration of the current closure until April 2, 2020. Teachers, administrators and secretaries will be paid in accordance with their district contracts.
If your family is struggling financially or having a hard time meeting basic needs, please know that there is help available in our community. As a first step, we encourage you to try calling the 2-1-1 helpline. This helpline is a free service through United Way which will help connect you quickly and privately to the resources you need, right here in Battle Creek. For any school-specific challenges or questions, please contact us at bcps.me/questions or find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bcpsbearcats/.
Thank you,
Superintendent Kim Carter
