Facing single-digit temperatures and even lower wind chills, dozens of BCPS staff members, students, and other volunteers came together to volunteer for a Stuff the Bus event, collecting clothing and non-perishable food items and loading them up inside a school bus. Parked in the W.K. Kellogg Preparatory High School lot behind the W.K. Kellogg Auditorium, the bus was open from 9 AM until 3 PM, and by the end of the day, every seat on the bus was stuffed with donations!
From winter wear and backup clothes for the school day to canned and boxed food items, the Stuff the Bus haul will be distributed by one of BCPS’ key partners, Communities in Schools (CIS). CIS will be able to use the items to support students and families in BCPS schools to help remove barriers to school attendance and success.
Willard Library also partnered to help make the event a success by offering free books for families with children who showed up to donate.
BCEA President Dr. Anthony Pennock shared, “Even in the face of freezing temperatures, the community and staff came out to help our families! Thank you so much to everyone for giving back on this special day to help those in our schools and community that need it the most.”
