Ann J. Kellogg Elementary’s Mr. LaGrand is serving as a new long-term guest teacher this year, but the school is a familiar home for him - he attended Ann J. as a young elementary student years ago! Mr. LaGrand majored in English at WMU, and after graduating, he has enjoyed a long career ranging from journalism to library research. He recently moved from Chicago back to his hometown of Battle Creek, where he’s served in LaMora Park, Verona, and Battle Creek Central, and is now back serving as a guest teacher in the school he loves. Additionally, Mr. LaGrand’s mother taught in the district for years, and his sister, Ms. Williams, also serves as a CIS Coordinator at W.K. Prep.
“It’s a joy and a pleasure and an honor to come back to the school and to be a positive force in the community,” he shared. He said one of his main focuses this year has been providing students with some responsibility, structure, and positivity to help keep them motivated.
Thank you for your commitment to student success, Mr. LaGrand!
