After recently hosting an incredible family event, the Fall Family Fish Fry, last week that saw nearly 200 in attendance to meet and greet with staff and enjoy performances from the band and cheer team, Northwestern kept up the positive momentum this week by hosting a school-wide Thanksgiving feast.
"I said it last week at the fish fry," Principal Fooy announced. "These are the moments that make my heart smile. We are one Bearcat family at Northwestern, and this is how families eat - together."
After Mr. Fooy welcomed everyone in, he went around the room of sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders, asking them to volunteer to share what they're thankful for. One student chimed in, sharing that she was thankful for Ms. Mary and the kitchen staff, and rightfully so. Ms. Mary and her team prepared an incredible spread of turkey, ham, stuffing, green beans, and more, plus an array of pies for dessert.
The school's Integrated Arts Instructional Coordinator, Ms. Tepper, also coordinated a project with each of the school's advisory classes in which students each shared some of the things they are grateful for on a leaf cutout. The leaves were then displayed on a tree in the lunch room as the event took place.
After enjoying the amazing dinner, which was served to students by staff members and student volunteers, the music came on, and students had a chance to get up and dance. From the Cupid Shuffle to an impromptu break dancing competition, students and staff all came together for a fun time, filling the room with joy and appreciation.
"We're working hard to build a positive culture here at Northwestern," said Dean of Culture and Climate Mr. Barroso. "One that learns, grows, and celebrates together like a family. These past two events with our families and students go to show we are moving in the right direction, and we can't wait to see what's next."
