On April 26, 2023, several of our BCPS School Board members, as well as Director of Elementary Education Dr. Chandra Youngblood, were honored with awards at the annual Calhoun Area School Board Members Association Awards Banquet. In a well-attended event, including a delicious chef-prepared meal at the Calhoun Area Career Center, board members Catherine LaValley, Art McClenney, and Charlie Fulbright each received service awards for their outstanding work and continuing education efforts as school board members.
BCPS Superintendent Kim Carter shared, "We are beyond grateful for the amazing individuals we have working for our staff and students on the BCPS school board. Each of these awards is well deserved. Thank you for your dedication to the success of every Bearcat!"
Additionally, BCPS' Director of Elementary Education Dr. Chandra Youngblood was honored with an Outstanding Community Member award in recognition of her years of service and dedication to improving early childhood learning opportunities and outcomes in Battle Creek.
BCPS Board President Patty Poole-Gray announced the award, stating, "Through focused and effective leadership throughout her career, Dr. Youngblood has successfully organized high quality coaching and other professional learning activities, created teacher leaders, and inspired many to assume leadership roles throughout Calhoun County and across the state."
"Dr. Youngblood developed and implemented the BCPS Kindergarten Success Program (KSP), which has successfully helped increase kindergarten readiness for historically marginalized students by 190 percent," she added.
Dr. Youngblood is set to retire following this school year. She will be greatly missed, but we wish her all the best in her retirement.
