Core Values

BC STEM Innovation Center values serve as refined, simplistic threads that weave the core of science, technology, engineering and math education through instruction and operations. These values inspire students and staff to do their best, provide a common bond and sense of direction, and build commitment to excellence. The following are values established by staff and students:

• Respect: Respect is the regard for or appreciation of the basic worth or value of someone or something. Effectiveness as an organization depends upon both earning the respect of students/teachers and providing students/teachers with respect. Students and staff shall respect the learning community of the Center and the individuals involved in their educational process. In turn, students and staff earn the respect of all those around them.
• Excellence: Excellence is the quality of being outstanding. Students at the Center strive to achieve excellence in all work and endeavors while developing into the best students and individuals they can be.
• Innovation: Innovation is the introduction of new ideas, methods or devices. Students at the Center are encouraged to take measured risks in introducing their own ideas into our educational environment while learning to accept the creative ideas of others.
• Integrity: Integrity is always doing what is right, living up to the highest ethical standards and not compromising values by giving in to temptation. Even though a substantial amount of learning at the Center is achieved in groups, students shall take pride in their original submitted work, their own exam results and their efforts to assist others in maintaining the Center's highest code of values.

Battle Creek STEM Innovation Center exists to offer students in Battle Creek an academically challenging middle school option that provides both unique learning experiences and a nurturing environment to support student growth and success. The programming here focuses on integrated STEM instruction that occurs throughout the day and across all content areas—a unique model that can be both challenging and highly rewarding for students. Success in this type of learning environment requires a high level of maturity, independence, and commitment, and it is our expectation that students come to BC STEM every day ready to learn, grow, and give their best effort.
